Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold and diced
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water
  • 6 cups apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms.
  • Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Roll out one disk on a floured surface to fit a pie pan.
  • Place the rolled dough into the pie pan and trim excess edges.
  • In a separate bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  • Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture.
  • Roll out the second disk, cut into strips, and create a lattice top over the apples.
  • Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  • Let cool before serving.
