Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 carrot finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk finely chopped
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 250 g ground pork
  • 400 g canned tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion, carrot, and celery; sauté until soft.
  • Increase heat and add ground beef and pork; cook until browned.
  • Stir in canned tomatoes and tomato paste.
  • Pour in red wine, bringing to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Add milk and season with salt and pepper; cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • Serve over pasta or use in lasagna.
  • Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
