Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt for topping
  • Optional: cheese sauce or mustard for dipping

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Gradually mix in flour and salt until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces (about 1-inch each).
  • Boil each piece in the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then remove and drain.
  • Place the boiled bites on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm!
