Rinse the chicken wings under cold water and pat them dry.
In a bowl, combine the wings with buttermilk and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
In another bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C).
Remove wings from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture.
Fry the wings in batches for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
Remove wings and let drain on paper towels.
Toss wings in hot sauce if desired.
