Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder paprika, or other spices

Instructions

  • Wash and peel the potatoes.
  • Cut the potatoes into evenly sized strips (about 1/4 inch thick).
  • Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • Drain and pat the potatoes dry with a clean towel.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
  • Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove fries and drain on paper towels; sprinkle with salt.
  • Repeat with the remaining fries.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
