Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 1/4 tsp
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Stir in melted butter and salt.
  • Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.
  • Shape each rope into a pretzel by twisting and folding.
  • In a large pot, boil water and baking soda; drop pretzels in for 30 seconds.
  • Remove and brush with beaten egg, then sprinkle with holiday sprinkles.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
