Ingredients

  • 2 large fillets of white fish cod, haddock, or pollock
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beer lager or ale
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Tartar sauce for serving
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  • Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Gradually whisk in the beer until smooth.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
  • Dip each fish fillet into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated.
  • Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil.
  • Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Remove the fish and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
